The Martina Earrings draw their form from the graceful, rippling petals of the Gilboa Iris, a rare wildflower known for its complex purples and silky texture. Each earring features a hand-shaped titanium petal, anodised into deep tertiary violets that shift with the light. A slender sterling-silver filament carries a baroque freshwater pearl, echoing the iris’s delicate stamen.

Unlike the natural petal, which narrows inward, these titanium forms open outward, creating a sculptural archway that frames the vivid turquoise cabochon above. The turquoise serves as a symbolic crown—a reference to the brilliant skies and living landscape where the Gilboa Iris blooms.

Named for and modelled by Martina, a cherished member of our family, these earrings celebrate both the rare beauty of the flower and the quiet, enduring elegance she embodies.

Fibulae are brooches or pins that were developed in the late Bronze Age (approximately 1200BCE) as a way of fastening clothes. Although they have largely been replaced by inventions such as buttons, zippers, and Velcro, fibulae are beautiful objects that can look as contemporary today as they did a few thousand years ago. This fibula is a relatively paired back example of the types of fibulae often seen in North African cultures, and features a stunningly blue lapis lazuli cabochon and richly coloured cultured freshwater pearls set with responsibly sourced and recycled sterling silver.

Cruel is a one-of-a-kind, hand-fabricated cuff bracelet forged from reclaimed sterling silver and finished with quiet, deliberate strength. Its face — a hammered and engraved silver “coin” bearing a stark profile — reflects the clarity that comes from looking directly at the world. The twisted band, accented with warm 9ct gold granules and ending in two luminous blue-green freshwater pearls, offers a counterpoint: fortification, grace, and the steadying weight of beauty.

This choker necklace was inspired by a Leonardo da Vinci painting, La Belle Ferronnière. A Ferronnière is a head adornment that was popular during the Renaissance.  It can be worn as a necklace or as a headband in homage to the da Vinci painting.

Inspired by our exquisite subtropical coastline, the Secluded necklace is another lovingly constructed piece from our Basalt Collection. This necklace pays tribute to our precious shoreline, with hope that it remains secluded, pristine, and protected for decades to come. The ceramic and metal components of this necklace were all handmade in Bargara by Malki Studio artist Ariella Anderson. The stunning and highly dispersive 2.4 carat golden labradorite was ethically sourced by a local couple, Irvine and Maureen, who fossicked the rough stone from Springsure and beautifully faceted the stone by themselves.

The length of this necklace is adjustable from 49cm to 58cm.

The Secluded earrings were directly inspired by our exquisite coastline as a part of our Basalt Collection. The ceramic and metal components of these earrings were handmade in Bargara by Malki Studio artist Ariella Anderson. The Marijke lapel pin showcases an interplay of understated elegance and vintage-inspired design. Handcrafted from responsibly sourced sterling silver with fine silver twisted wire accents, it incorporates repurposed materials including a luminous moonstone and soft pink cultured freshwater pearls—imbuing the piece with a sense of sustainability and timeless beauty. Its restrained size is subtly sophistication, and the design evokes the elegance of the Art Deco period with its curved symmetrical balance and refined details. Drop Earrings: titanium, responsibly sourced sterling silver, responsibly sourced 14kt gold, ethically sourced 1.95ct (3.9ct combined) Brazilian garnets, cultured freshwater pearls.

The richly coloured Diatom earrings are a one-of-a-kind marriage of heat coloured titanium, sterling silver, and 14kt gold. The earrings are inspired by the photosynthetic microorganisms known as diatoms, which produce up to half of the world’s oxygen. The shells of some species of diatoms are almost crystalline in appearance, with sharp geometric shapes that are stunningly complex.

Each earring is based on etched titanium that has been heat coloured in saturated hues of green and pinkish purple. The deep red of the ethically sourced garnets is a complimentary colour to the titanium, and contrasts wonderfully with the brushed sterling silver settings that feature twisted wire and rivets. Dangling from the 14kt gold are two dark cultured freshwater pearls, with slightly mismatched undertones of green on one pearl, and bronze on the other.

Beautiful and dangerous, many species of wasp use their bright colouration to alert you to the fact that if you don't respect them, they can hurt you. Much the same approach was taken in making this ring, with its bright colours and curvaceous forms that conceal a large sharp spike.

The Cerulean Sky collar necklace is the capstone piece of the Cerulean sky series. Inspired by our exquisite subtropical coastline, the Cerulean Sky Necklace is an essential part of our Basalt Collection. This necklace features a solid sterling silver ring from which we’ve suspended an organically textured and glazed black ceramic tile. In homage to the wild beauty of the landscape and the creatures that inhabit it, we’ve paired the ceramic tile with a peach coloured pearl, which simultaneously recalls the dramatic skies that fleetingly pass over our home and studio. The ceramic and metal components of this necklace were all handmade in Bargara by Malki Studio artist Ariella Anderson.

The Satellites necklace is the latest edition to our Orbit Collection. It features a long uninterrupted chain made of blue heat coloured titanium, with gorgeous lilac pearls dangling from fine (pure) silver wires. The necklace references the orbit of satellites (or moons) around a planet, the necklace having no beginning and no end to recall the eternal dance of heavenly bodies around one another.

Neck Adornment: fine white clay, sterling silver, cultured freshwater pearls.

Embrace is an artwork that combines the sculptural yet fluid character of ceramics with the luxury and elegance of pearls and silver. Resembling the soft, embracing, pleated fabric of scarves, the thin textured ceramic drapes about the neck and shoulders in a strongly feminine and sculptural manner. Two silver chains finished with big and beautiful freshwater pearls secure the ceramic sections in a closed position . The back of this piece is no less lavish over than the front, with a long silver chain and pearl hanging sensually down to the centre of the wearer’s back.

Riveted to the titanium shank is a secondary shank made of reticulated silver on top of which we have set a gorgeous dark grey pearl with a small surface blemish.

The Shield is a ring that makes use of jewellery’s ability to negotiate meaning, record history, offer protection, and act as a mediator. The silver which constitutes this ring has long had associations with protective magic, sometimes called Baraka in cultures from North Africa. Further protection is offered by the use of titanium, which is a very hard yet light material often used in the aerospace industry. Finally, while physical, spiritual, and psychological protection is invested in this ring through metals, a more nurturing protection is given through the pearl with its associations with femininity, nature, and delicate beauty.

Ring: responsibly sourced sterling silver, copper, lapis lazuli, ethically sourced natural Australian zircon, cultured freshwater pearls.

This one-of-a-kind ring was inspired by the qualities of the materials themselves, especially their colour and lustre. The ring features a multicoloured oxidised copper shank that has been stabilised to both preserve the colour and also for easier wear. In stark contrast to the copper, the sterling silver border of the ring is reflective and cool, set with a sensual mixture of natural gemstones and cultured pearls. The lapis cabochon is a vivid blue that stands out beautifully against the copper shank and the champagne coloured ethically mined zircon (not cubic zirconia) from the Gemfields in Queensland. The two pearls provide a soft glow that compliments the copper and lapis while contrasting with the clarity of the zircon.

This necklace comes from our Basalt Collection. Basalt is a hard and darkly coloured rock formed by the flow of lava. In Bargara (Queensland), where Malki Studio is based, basalt rocks cover much of our coastline, setting a colour palette of dark grey/black and blue which we find delightful. In tribute to our natural surroundings, we have created the Basalt necklace, which features textured black ceramic beads, blue heat coloured titanium, pearl and garnet beads, and a large central blue-green fluorite set in oxidised copper and brass.

The Containment Vessel series is a suite of small hand built ceramic vessels, produced primarily in the ancient form of amphorae (traditionally used to store wine, oil, or other fluids considered precious in the ancient world). They each serve a mystical or magical purpose aimed at protecting their owner through the power of containment.

The Emunah Containment Vessel refers to the Hebrew word “Emunah,” meaning “faith,” not necessarily in a religious context but in the sense of placing trust in something greater than oneself. This containment vessel is thus an offering, an encapsulation of faith or trust in something divine, be it a deity, nature, or something else.

This piece was exhibited in Elemental, an exhibition by the Jewellery and Metalsmiths Group of Queensland (JMGQ), held in 2024 at the Metcalfe Gallery in the Brisbane Institute of Art.

After The Woman In Gold is a unique choker necklace inspired by the famous Gustav Klimt painting after which it was named.

It features a large central stone called Mookaite (Australian jasper) that is shouldered by handmade ceramic tiles. The robust geometry of the textured tiles is accented by the delicate freshwater pearls and garnet beads that dangle elegantly between the tiles.

This is a considered statement piece made in collaboration between Malki artists Ariella and Adam Anderson.

Fibula brooch: responsibly sourced sterling silver, ethically sourced Utah (USA) variscite, repurposed cultured freshwater pearl, repurposed carnelian cabochon, ethically sourced parti sapphire from the Queensland Gemfields.

The Menorah Fibula is a large brooch created in celebration of our Jewish culture and history, especially through its symbolism of shining the light of hope, warmth, and strength in dark and uncertain times. The seven branched candelabrum is an ancient Jewish symbol tied inextricably to our people’s history, religion, culture, community, and land.

The presentation of the Menorah in the form of a fibula references the history of our family in North Africa. In Algeria, Jews and Muslims alike traditionally wore large silver fibula brooches to fasten clothing and suspend other items of jewellery in accordance with varied, rich, and spiritually significant customs.

The evil eye is a motif shared by many cultures around the Mediterranean Sea and predates the monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). In the days before the biblical God, the evil eye was not seen as an amusing superstition or as naïve magical thinking but as a real malevolent force that was at the heart of misfortune and suffering. Therefore, protection from the evil eye was correspondingly considered an essential and pressing need. The perhaps contrary strategy for warding off the evil eye’s gaze traditionally involved distracting it or reflecting it, which gave rise to many proliferations of eye-like or otherwise distracting imagery (such as the fig sign found in some Ancient Roman jewellery).

Jewellery can therefore be said to have once had a far more practical use than how we often think of it today, it afforded real protection from ill-will, misfortune, and suffering. In the present, it is arguably self-deceiving of us to think of contemporary jewellery as having lost this usage. If the evil eye can be understood as a force that works against us then the need for protection from it has hardly been transcended. It has only been fractured into a myriad of troublesome forces which we often feel overpowered by (such as climate change, disease, and inequality).

This necklace is a contemporary amulet, an empowering reminder to use one’s benevolence and resistance for protecting oneself and the world in the face of suffering.
