At Malki we have been exploring the long history of human adornment and people’s relationships with objects of invested value such as amulets, talismans, and charms. This has led us to create jewellery pieces that make use of the performative substance's ability to negotiate meaning, record history, offer protection and act as a mediator. The Sentinels ring is part of the Amulet Collection. It is a two finger ring meant to offer its wearer protection as they are guarded by two animal-like statues.
This stylised design is inspired by ancient jewellery and objects (such as that made by the Ancient Greeks, Persian, Dacian and Vikings) which featured animal head terminals. These animals were believed to protect against evil spirits and bring good luck to their wearer.
