Cuff Bracelet: aluminium.

This one-of-a-kind cuff was created through meticulous saw-piercing, a demanding technique in which the bracelet’s forms were hand-cut from a thick sheet of aluminium. The portrait that appears both inside and outside the cuff was first drawn by hand, then engraved into the metal, creating a figure suspended between inner life and outward expression.

Conceived as an exploration of escapism and cosmopoiesis—the human impulse to imagine new worlds—the piece invites its wearer into that same act of quiet, generative dreaming. The openwork forms that lace the cuff act like fragments of an invented landscape: fluid, shifting, and suggestive of spaces the mind can inhabit when reality demands elsewhere.

This piece was featured in the prestigious 2023 Mayo Festival at St Margaret’s Anglican Girls’ School, Brisbane — an invitation-only showcase honouring alumna Daphne Mayo (1895–1982), the pioneering Australian sculptor whose work, including the monumental Brisbane City Hall tympanum, helped usher Australian public art into the modern era.

This piece was also selected for artisan Collects (2022), a collaborative initiative between Malki Studio and artisan Gallery that invited collectors to explore jewellery as an art form. For more information, please click here.

Inside width: 6.4cm.

This cuff bracelet fits a medium sized wrist.
